Christian Finnegan’s debut stand-up comedy disc comes out next month on Comedy Central Records.

Christian Finnegan is missing his regular ‘‘Today” show appearance to tell jokes in Boston.

‘‘I will be at the Comedy Connection, so I shan’t be there,” the Acton native told the Herald. ‘‘I don’t know how they’ll do it without me. They’ll probably cancel it.”

Finnegan and other contributors to VH1’s ‘‘Best Week Ever” make fun of the headlines twice a week - once for VH1, and again on NBC.

Here’s something else you might not see on the peacock network: ‘‘Matt Lauer is actually an underratedly funny dude,” Finnegan said. ‘‘He’s not what you think. He’s a dark, funny guy. There’s times when Matt Lauer insulted me. And it hurt.”

Has he talked to Lauer about it?

‘‘Matt knows what he did and when he’s ready to apologize, he can call me. And if he doesn’t have my number, there’s a P.A. (production assistant) who does and he can have him call me. And that’s when I’ll end my boycott of the ‘Today’ show. ”

During the summer break for ‘‘Best Week Ever,” Finnegan slimmed down and got married.

Then there is his hair, newly spiked and full. How much product is in that head?

‘‘Generally, what I do, more than a handful is wasteful,” he said. ‘‘So actually, it’s spackle. I smear it around and let it set, put a rubber sheen on it and I’m out the door. Only two hours!”

Does he like his new look?

‘‘First of all, my hair has been excessively long,” he said. ‘‘I think the hugeness of my fat Irish head is accentuated now that I’m not as large from the neck down. I look like a parade float now, a huge head held afloat by helium.”

Finnegan’s debut stand-up comedy disc comes out next month on Comedy Central Records. He performs at 8 and 10:15 p.m. tonight and tomorrow ($22.50-$25, 617-248-9700) at the Comedy Connection at Quincy Market.
